Power of Sailing of
Peter Stuivenberg - is a team game, which requires team members to rely on each other for the simplest tasks. The moment you step on board you have to cope with leadership, motivation, togetherness, awareness and communication. Therefore sailing as an activity built teams, leadership, awareness and togetherness at a much faster and efficient rate than any other tool. And sailing is fun too!
A sailing yacht and the High Seas is for almost all people an 'unknown' environment, which will allow each member of the team to start from scratch. Each team member on board has to cope with communication, leadership skills, motivation and risks. Managing a high-tech sailing yacht orders the same primary requirements as managing a modern organization: good planning and communication, knowing how to handle complex associations, awareness, motivation and of course a competitive spirit. We also talk about leadership, risk-taking, devotion and togetherness.
The unknown sailing environment, away from the pressure of the workplace, enables existing teams to be strengthened and the building of new teams, providing an enduring return on your investment. The setting develops cohesiveness and trust in each other in order to perform team designated tasks. Through the exhilarating sailing experience the team members optimize leadership skills, strengthen relations, share risk-taking and will improve trust. The subsequent debriefing session back on shore examines communication patterns, leadership styles, decision making processes and team awareness and effectiveness.
Prior sailing experience is definitely - and even sometimes preferably - not necessary.
